The library holiday tree goes meta!

Happy Holidays to the BBN US community!
If you're looking for some things to do when your exams end or if you need a study break, check out the holiday tree of plenty in the library - constructed entirely of former trees that have morphed into fabulous fiction titles.  Take them home for the holidays!

We'll see you in 2013!

The Return of the Not-So-Quiet Coffee House!

Did you miss the third ever, second annual Not-so-Quiet Coffee House?  If so, you missed out!  But turn that frown upside down, and relive the magic with our photographic and video evidence of the Quiet Room becoming a palace of noise.  Gigantic thanks to all the performers and to all the students and faculty members who came to cheer them on!

BBN's top 10 favorite summer reads

After a highly scholastic, scientific, rigorous survey conducted in advisory group meetings, the results of what the BBN Upper School students thought about summer reading has been tallied.  34 of 51 advisory groups participated and gave us their feedback.  They indicated that between all groups, 101 books from the summer reading list were enjoyed!  The top 10 (more like top 17 due to a ten-way tie...) are below.  Congratulations to both Ms. Payne and Ms. Makrauer's advisory groups, the enviable winners of breakfast provided by the librarians!

Summer Reading 2012

It's almost summer (YAY!) and the summer reading lists are hot off the press.  To help you make the all important decision of what to read over the summer, we have surveyed a number of faculty members and students for their personal recommendations from the general summer reading list and put the results up on display in the library.  A preview of some picks appears below, but stop by to check out the full display.

The entire 2012 General Summer Reading List can be found by using the link provided, or on the BBN School website, where the entire summer reading list (including department by department requirements) can be found.

Mr. Leith pointedly approves of Seabiscuit.

Book Swap!

Mr. Williams grows strong from
literary knowledge at the Book Swap.
In April, the Almy Library joined forces with the Upper School Community Service club to host the second annual Upper School Book Swap and Bake Sale!  The second annual Book Swap, which benefits More Than Words, was a great success.

Thanks to the donations of books and baked goods from the Upper School community, we donated somewhere over 150 books and DVDs, along with all baking sale proceeds.  Thank you to all parents, students, and faculty who clearly did some spring cleaning, the students and faculty who attended, and to all the wonderful student volunteers from the Community Service Club and the Student Library Advisory Board who staffed the event!

Our lovely student volunteers (Lydia '14 and Edwin '15)  staff the Book Swap cart
in the Commons while Mr. Williams and Tyler '15 do some shopping.

Not So Quiet Coffee House an audible success!

The first ever Not So Quiet Coffee House will certainly not be the last Not So Quiet Coffee House!  With eight fabulous performances ranging from written works to piccolo pieces to guitar to monologues, the BBN Upper School has some serious literary and musical talent!  If you couldn't make it, we've got some photographic evidence of the event, along with some video clips of our talented guitarists.
